My Three Moms

About Virginia Bryan

Virginia was born in Athens, Georgia. She went to Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C., transferred to North Carolina State her junior year and walked on to the Number 1 Women's Division One cross-country team – the NC State Wolfpack. After running her butt off for the Wolfpack for two years, she moved to New York, supporting herself as a paralegal in respected law firms, and quickly determined that being a lawyer was not her calling. She enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute on a whim, and thus began her journey as an actress.

Virginia's professional life changed when she spent the summer as an acting apprentice at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, where she picked up cigarette butts, painted scenery and got the opportunity to take classes with the brilliant Lewis Black, Richard Kind and Darko Tresnjak. Since that exhilarating summer, Virginia has performed in numerous New York City theatre productions, including Crimes of the Heart, Ines de Castro, Platonov, and in the 2008 FringeNYC production Raised By Lesbians. Outside New York, Virginia played Ellen Ryan in Game Show in Atlantic City at the Showboat Casino and the role of June in José Rivera's Marisol in Berlin, Germany.

Virginia has been in several indie films, including Dana H. Glazer's Control Room, José Pelaez's Cornered, The Dominant Eye, Slutty Summer, and A Four Letter Word, where Virginia won Best Supporting Actress at the 2008 San Diego Filmout Festival.

With the confidence that Lewis Black instilled in her back at Williamstown, Virginia began writing bits of her story and observations about the South, which ultimately transformed into her one-woman show My Three Moms. Virginia performed My Three Moms at the People's Improv Theatre in February, 2010 and as part of the 14th Annual New York International Fringe Festival in August, 2010. She also performed My Three Moms as part of the Mama Drama Festival at Stage Left Studio in October, 2010, a four week run in the Winter of 2010 at Stage Left Studio, and at 13th Street Repertory Theatre in April, 2011. She will perform the show on November 3, 2011 as part of the United Solo Theatre Festival at Theatre Row, NYC.
